Qi, The Energy Force in All Things

In Ancient China, it was believed that there is an energy force in all things called Qi.

Yin YangThis life force is present in all living organisms, natural forms, the earth and space, and even the human body. Qi can be categorized into five elements with Yin or Yang polarity.Yin and Yang are two primordial forces. There are five elements that represent the types of Qi in nature. They are: Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood.

The interactions between the five elements with each other form the basis for Chinese Metaphysical subjects, science, philosophy, and medicine.
Qi

I spent 15 years of my life studying the different types of energies called Qi. It was through the experiences of the Feng Shui and Qi Gong Masters, that I realized how much this invisible life force affected our lives and fate.

Many of the teachers described Qi as the air which is vital to our existence. Other teachers I had studied under described Qi as energies, such as the magnetic field of the earth, sunlight, and cosmic radiation. I remember one Master taught his students that Qi is similar to spirits that behave a certain way.

14During my first five years of studying Chinese Metaphysics, I remember a field trip with a Qi Gong Master in San Francisco. This Qi Gong Master moonlighted as a Chinese Exorcist and had a super strong Qi flow around him that was well-developed. He was spiritually elevated. He took us to places in San Francisco where certain trees emitted negative Qi and positive Qi. When I got to the area where the trees emitted negative Qi, both he and I began to cough.

He also took us to places where the Qi emitted by trees would help enhance your own Qi. Since you cannot touch or see Qi energy, the Qi Gong Master demonstrated that he could use the energy from the tree to enhance his Qi. This Master told me to stand 30 feet away from him and run as fast as I could towards him to hit him very hard. He stood near the tree that enhanced his Qi. I ran toward him to hit him as hard as I could. When I was 3 feet away from him, he pushed me away using his Qi force, never touching me.

The other classmates did the same thing. Again, he was able to push each one of them away without touching them. I remember there was a lot of giggling and laughter that day. We tried over and over again to hit him, but he was able to push us out of the way, using his Qi and the Qi he got from the tree near him.

I still remember the other group exercises he showed us to prove that even humans have Qi surrounding their bodies. One by one, my classmates put their hands on top of my head, as I sat on the floor. They then removed their hands from my head and with the other hand under me were able to lift me as if I was light as a feather. These are one of the many experiences that made me believe that these forces existed.

Qi is a life force that governs all living beings. Qi cannot be seen or heard, but shapes our endeavors in life. It flows like water. Qi is the heart and core of Classical Feng Shui practice.

There are five categories of Qi that exist in our universe:

  • Wang Qi – A prosperous Qi that nurtures and gives good fortune.
  • Sheng Qi – A growing Qi that is strong and enhances prosperity and good fortune
  • Tui Qi – Qi that is old and expired. Energy that is weakening
  • Si Qi – Qi in this stage is dead and stagnant
  • Sha Qi – Sometimes called killing breath. It is Qi that reduces vitality, as well as thinking or performance.

A Classical Feng Shui Practitioner will be able to find these types of Qi energies in a home audit. The Feng Shui Practitioner will always try to make use of the benevolent and vibrant Qi, (Sheng Qi), and avoid the negative (Sha Qi). It is through their expertise and techniques that the right type of Qi can be harnessed to help the client with their endeavors.
